Douglas “Doug” Schamp, 60, of Brownsville died Monday. He was born to Harold and Marion (Salter) Schamp in Deadwood, South Dakota.
Doug was a member of the elite Blue Angel’s Squad from 1981-1983. He grew up in Corvallis, attending the schools there. Doug joined the Navy at age 17 and was trained in Nuclear Submarines. After graduating from Oregon State University, Doug entered officers training in Pensicola, FL. During his military career Doug traveled all over the world. He retired from the military in 1991 in San Diego, CA, eventually returning to Oregon and settling in Brownsville.
He loved his Harley Davidson and started two chapters of the Oregon Veterans Motorcycle Organization; in Burns and Sweet Home. He was a man with a large heart that showed kindness to others.
Doug is survived by daughter, Kristi Hoaglin of Portland; sister, Sharon Bennett of Palm Springs, CA; beloved friend, Jan Schamp of Eugene; nephews; three grandchildren; and many friends both from the military and locally. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. |
