Lynda Karen Newton
  January 26, 1938 - September 21, 2007

Lynda Newton, age 69, of Sweet Home, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully Friday, September 21, 2007 at the Regency Albany Rehabilitation Center. She had bravely endured kidney failure secondary to Diabetes. With her as she passed away was her daughter, Jean Newton, of Albany.

Lynda was born January 26, 1938 in Hayward, California to Ernest W. and Helen C. (Wedin) Pott-Hughes. Lynda spent her youth in Dobbins, Chico, and Marysville, California before making Sweet Home her home. She was proud of her Native American (Maidu) and Swedish ancestry.

Lynda married John Delbert Newton in Reno in July 1967. They were married for 36 years. Lynda and her husband were members of the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and were active in the church choir there. Lynda was involved in SHEM (Sweet Home Emergency Ministries) helping the homeless with food and clothing. She loved to travel, knit, crochet, and read. In her youth she sang and played the guitar and enjoyed country music.

Lynda loved her family and she will be remembered by those she loved and influenced during her time on earth, and will look forward to being reunited with them for eternity.

Lynda is survived by her daughter, Lynda Jean Newton, and her stepson, Michael Howard Newton, both of Albany, and grandchildren, Clista (Billie) DeVore, Kris Boeder, and Steven John Lowe. Her beloved great-grandchildren are Alejandro DeVore, Conner DeVore, and Kristal-Rose, Heather Lowe, Devin Lowe, Jedediah Lowe, and Brendan Thomas—all of Sweet Home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Delbert Newton.

Viewing will be held Tuesday, September 25, at 1:00 pm with a funeral service following at 2:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sweet Home, Oregon. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel handled her arrangements.
