Eunice Mickel, age 88, of Sweet Home, passed away Tuesday at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital. She was born in Corvallis to Jack and Jessie (Telford) Edwards.
Eunice graduated from Cottage Grove High School. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon and a Master’s degree from the University of Washington.
She was married to Dr. Edwin A. Mickel from 1941 to 1956. She worked as the Sweet Home High School Librarian from 1957 to 1981. |

Eunice loved to garden and took special pride in her dahlias. She also enjoyed hiking and camping, and was a member of the Eugene Obsidians. She traveled extensively for pleasure and to visit her daughters who were living in different parts of the world. She played bridge with her friends and loved being with her family.
Eunice is survived by her four daughters; Susan Mickel of Farmington, New Mexico, Ellen Stone of Hawi, Hawaii, Marilee Smith of Sweet Home, and Barbara Mickel of Bend; one sister, Lucy Jenkins of Ridgefield, Washington; one brother, Nathan Edwards of Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Donnie Mickel, and her brother, Ernest Edwards.
A m emorial service will be held at 10:00 am Friday, October 12, at the Sweet Home United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Creswell Pioneer Cemetery. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements. |
