Janice S. “Umpy” Mason, age 70, of Sweet Home, passed away Friday. She was born in Springfield, Missouri to Jesse and Lena Mae (Knott) Comer. She was the youngest of eleven children.

Janice lived in Scio for many years as a child. Her family moved to Sweet Home when she was a teen, and she graduated from Sweet Home High School. She has lived in Sweet Home ever since.

She provided daycare for many years and volunteered at the VFW. Janice loved scary movies, bingo, yahtzee, and cooking. She loved to take day trips to the coast to watch the sun set.

Janice is survived by three children: Kevin Mason of Sweet Home, Lance Mason and wife, Bonnie, of Sweet Home, and Jennie Mason-Inerfeld of Albany; five grandchildren: Michael, Annie, and Nick, all of Sweet Home, and Lacey and Heather of Albany; her extended family at Caring Hands, where she lived for the last ten years; two sisters: Alberta of Missouri and Marian “Tiny” of Arizona; granddog, Jumbo; and grandkitty, Baby.

Janice was preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters.

Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 18th, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
