Helen Willis, age 88, of Swink, Oklahoma (formally of Sweet Home, Oregon) passed away Friday in Swink, Oklahoma. She was born in Wright City, Oklahoma to John C. and Isabel Ella (James) Herndon.
Helen grew up in McCurtain County, then in 1952 she moved to Oregon until 2006 when she moved back to McCurtain County. Helen graduated from Chilocco Indian Academy.
Helen met her husband, Orville E. Willis, and they were married April 24, 1940 in Idabel, Oklahoma. She was a supervisor for White’s Electronics. She loved to read, crochet, garden, and spend time with her family. Helen was of the Baptist Faith. She was also very proud of her Choctaw Heritage.
Helen leaves to cherish her memory a son, Daniel Allen Willis; two daughters, Jerilyn Kay Luna and Myra Isabel Mumey, and husband, Jerry; 11 grandchildren; 33 great granchildren; four great great granchildren; and many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Jerome Willis; parents; brother, Calvin Herndon; and four sisters: Beulah Culp, Janey Snapp, Lona Snow, and Rose Krieger.
Viewing will be at 12:00, noon, Thursday, March 6, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm, also at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. |
