Douglas Walter Beebe, age 90, of Sweet Home passed away on Saturday. Doug was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Walter and Amy (Capper) Beebe. Fifteen minutes after Doug’s birth, his twin brother, Donald, was born. They joined 8-year-old brother, Vade.
Doug was educated in Western Nebraska, and it was there that he met his bride and future wife of 65 years, Edna Wallace. Brother Donald was married to Edna’s sister, Gretchen for 67 years. The brothers, their wives, and parents Walter and Amy, moved to Southern California in the 1930’s, and then to Oregon in the mid-1940’s. The father and sons purchased a farm between Sweet Home and Lebanon on Mountain Home Road in 1946. They all lived at “Beebeville” for 50 years before moving into Sweet Home.
Doug worked in the logging industry, in sales, and at Santiam Lumber Company/Willamette Industries. On his way home from work one day, he met a frantic mother running down the street with a limp child in her arms. Doug stopped and administered CPR to the child and saved a precious life.
Doug enjoyed fishing, golfing, reading, playing cards and his “van.” Dancing was a love he and Edna shared. In the late 1950’s and 1960’s they taught after-school dance lessons for teens at the Elks Club in Sweet Home. As a member of the Sweet Home B.P.O.E., Doug served in various offices and assisted with many service projects. He and Edna were active members of the Sweet Home United Methodist Church.
Doug was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved to joke and tease with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers, and son-in-law, Dennis Hoisington. Doug is survived by his two daughters: Teryl Putnam (husband, George) of Netarts, OR, and Tonia Beebe of McMinnville; by his grandchildren: Timothy Putnam (Lisa) of La Quinta, CA , Kelly Campbell-Rickard (Adam) of Sherwood, OR, Aaron Putnam (Sofia) of Hayward, CA, and Danelle Putnam of Santiago, Dominican Republic; and by seven great-grandchildren.
Private internment will take place at Gilliland Cemetery in Sweet Home. A worship service thanking the Lord for Doug’s life will by conducted by Rev. April Hall Cutting at Sweet Home United Methodist Church, 11:00 am on Saturday, March 22, 2008.
