Walter Amos Wideman, age 94, of Albany passed away Friday. He was born in Woodburn, Oregon to Edwin and Leah (Brubaker) Wideman.
He served in the Army from September 9, 1942 to October 2, 1945 and received a Silver Star Medal and a Purple Heart Medal.
He lived in Woodburn, Oregon until his family moved to Tofield, Alberta, Canada when he was about five. In 1924, his family moved to Sheridan, Oregon. He was married there and began his family. In the early 1950’s, he, his wife and young son moved to Grants Pass, Oregon. In the mid-1980’s their family moved to Albany, Oregon.
Walt was a logger and truck driver. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ and served in various ways in local churches in the communities where he lived. For the last number of years he was a member of Prince of Peace Community Church in Adair Village.
He enjoyed gardening, traveling and visiting with his many friends.
Walt is survived by his wife, Berniece; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Kathy Wideman; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorene Glassburn Wideman; an infant daughter; parents, Edwin and Leah Wideman and seven siblings.
Viewing will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 10, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel in Sweet Home, Oregon. A memorial service will be at 4:00 p.m., Friday, April 11, at Prince of Peace Community Church in Adair Village. Gravesides services will be at 2:00 p.m., on Friday at Sheridan Mennonite Church Cemetery in Willamina, Oregon.
