| Vernon A. Sturdevant, age 73, of Sweet Home passed away Friday, July 10, 2009. He was born in Tipton, Indiana to Garland B. and E. Madeline (Hand) Sturdevant.
He served in the Army from 1961 to 1965. During those years, he was active duty from 1961 to 1963.
Vernon lived many places, because his father was in construction. Vernon married Donna Long on August 17, 1963. He moved to Sweet Home in 1965, because of the Green Peter Dam’s construction. He worked in construction and was a certified welder and millwright.
He attended Church of Christ at 37th and Long Street in Sweet Home. He enjoyed working in his shop and loved science fiction.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Donna Long Sturdevant of Sweet Home; children, Jaylene and her husband Michael Wong of San Jose, California, Michael and his wife Sophary Sturdevant of Beaverton, Oregon, and Vicki and her husband Rick Jackson of Halfway, Oregon; siblings, Charles C. Sturdevant of Bakersfield, California, M. Ann Graves of Lewiston, Idaho, Thomas L. Sturdevant of Lebanon, Oregon, Ronald G. Sturdevant of Roswell, New Mexico, and Jerry W. Sturdevant of Silver City, New Mexico; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Garland B. Sturdevant, on August 11, 1984 and mother, Madeline Hand Sturdevant, on October 25, 2007.
A memorial service is planned August 1 from 2-5 pm at the Sturdevant home.
Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling services.
