| James Doyle Varner, age 59, of Sweet Home died Friday, August 21, 2009. He was born on August 4, 1950 in Sweet Home, Oregon; the son of Gerald Dee and Edythe Rae (Krause) Varner.
Jim lived in the Crawfordsville area until his family moved to Tillamook County in 1965. Jim graduated from Nestucca High School in Cloverdale, Oregon in 1968. He moved back to Sweet Home after graduating.
He worked for Willamette Industries and Weyerhaeuser for over 30 years until he retired in 2006. Since that time he has worked at Ti Squared Industries in Sweet Home.
Jim enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He volunteered with the Sweet Home Rodeo for many years.
Survivors include his sons, Skylar Samson of Sweet Home and Jimmy Varner of Portland; daughter, Vicki DeLong of Sweet Home; “Mom and Dad,” Luella and Dick Torrey of North Bend; five brothers, Ray Varner of Albany, Bob Vaner o f Lebanon, Rick Forrest of Tillamook, Tim Varner of North Bend, and Terry Varner of Tillamook; four sisters, Betty Baughman of Tillamook, Patsy Lane of Tillamook, Robi Fleming of North Bend, and Shirley Waldow of Shingle Springs, California; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and grandson, Tristan Varner.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 25, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Sweet Home Funeral Chapel to help Jim’s family with funeral costs.
