| Emma Bennett, age 88, of Sweet Home went to be with her Lord on Friday. Emma was born in Watrous, New Mexico to Roman and Adela (Ortiz) Silva. Emma was raised and schooled in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Fort Collins, Colorado. After Secretarial School, Emma moved to Portland, Oregon where she met her lifelong love, Jim Bennett. They were married in 1953. Soon after, they moved to the Los Angeles area and started a family of four wonderful children. Emma worked as a secretary at a local hospital where she was often called upon to be used as an interpreter because of her bilingual skills. They moved back to Oregon in 1971 after purchasing a small farm in Crawfordsville.
Emma was a devoted Catholic her entire life. She was a member of the Saint Helen’s Women’s Club in Sweet Home. Emma worked as a secretary for the Sweet Home City Hall for many years until her retirement. |

Emma loved to sew, making many of her children’s clothes as well as her own. She loved dancing and was a member of the Elks Lodge. Emma’s hobbies included canning the fruits and vegetables raised on their small farm in Crawfordsville and watching her children play sports, as she never missed a game!
Emma is survived by her husband, Jim Bennett, of Sweet Home; sons, Bill Bennett and wife Pam of Wilsonville, Gary Bennett and his wife Kari of Crawfordsville, Greg Bennett and wife Lisa of Seattle, WA.; daughter, Cindy Strader and husband Gary of Corvallis; brother, Tito, and brother, Floyd, of New Mexico; six beautiful grandchildren, Rob, Ashlei, Amanda, Lexie, Shelby, Cody and two beautiful great grandchildren, Logan and Emma.
She was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings.
Closed casket visitation will be held from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 22, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Rosary will begin at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday at St. Helen's Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 23, at St. Helen's Catholic Church.
