Steve A. Newsome, 53, of Sweet Home passed away Thursday, April 29th. He was born in Eugene, Oregon to Melvin and Jacqueline S. (Bousman) Newsome. He lived most of his life in the Sweet Home-Lebanon area. After attending high school in Sweet Home and Portland, he joined the US Army and became a Clinical Specialist.
Steve returned to the area after being discharged and attended LBCC and OSU to earn degrees in Sociology and Criminal Justice. He worked as a bartender at many area establishments while attending college. From 1996 to 1999, he worked at Fairview Training Center in Salem. From 1999 to 2006, he owned and operated an adult foster home with his wife.
Steve enjoyed collecting and restoring old cars and spending time with his grandchildren.
Steve is survived by: his wife, Cyndi Newsome; children, Steven and Keith Newsome and Joanna, Lynne, and Peter Jasin; grandchildren, Gabriel Jasin and Anabelle Morris; three more grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jackie Bousman (2009), and sisters, Helen Simpson (2005) and Roxanna Lawson (2003).
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
