Jimmie (Jim) Barker
September 12, 1933 - November 7, 2012
   

Jimmie (Jim) James Barker, 79, of Lebanon was born in Sprague River Oregon to Charles Osborne and Annie Ethel (Johnston) Barker.

Jim lived in: Brigham City, UT; Worcester, MA; Twin Falls, Idaho; and Liberty District in Sweet Home, Oregon while growing up.  

In September 1950, he followed his older brother, Clayton, and joined the Air Force. He was stationed first at Lackland Air Force Base (AFB), and then Sheppard AFB in Texas for training. His first duty assignment was Williams AFB, Arizona as an F-80 crew chief.  While there, he was injured and sent to Travis AFB, Califorina where he was medically discharged in Dec 1951.

Following his discharge, he lived in northern Utah for several years before returning to Oregon.  He worked for many years as a mechanic at various auto dealerships in Corvallis, Oregon: Tharp Motors; Wayne Buck Chevrolet; Held Pontiac; and finally retiring from Jack Scoville.

He was a life member of the DAV Willamette Chapter #17 and served two terms as Commander and one term as Chaplain.

Jim is survived by: his wife, Nadine (Nicholson) Barker; half brother, John Tamasauskas (Lorrie); half-sister, Louise (Tamasauskas) Weaver; daughter, Virginia Stanley (and her husband, Ken); sons, James (Jimmie) Barker, Jerry Barker (and his wife, Marilyn);  stepsons, Dave Black (and his wife, Peg); Larry Dean Black (and his companion, Donna Meng); stepdaughter, Nancy Black (and her husband, David  Keaton); 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, including special niece, Jane (Barker) (and her husband, Bill Hills-Wilson); and special granddaughter, Clemencia Torres.

He was preceeded in death by: his parents; his brothers, Clayton Barker and Charles (Buck) Barker; sisters, Charlotte (Barker) Collum, Delsa (Dee) Giles, and Betty Jean Kerby; and stepson, Ronald E Black.

A viewing will take place from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 12, 2012 at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Gilliland Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.
