Lois Grace Sevier
February 23, 1918–June 2, 2017

Lois Grace Sevier, 99, of Sweet Home, Oregon passed away Friday, June 2. She was born in Portland to Lester W. and Grace Irene (Robinson) Towle. Her father was the Portland Fire Chief.

She attended her first three grades in the three-room Fairvale School near Glencullen. The next six grades were attended at Maplewood and Multnomah Schools in Portland.

Lois graduated from the old Lincoln High School 1935.  She earned a post graduate degree in secretarial science at Commerce H.S., which she attended for one year. Lois then attended and graduated from Monmouth College in 1938 with a degree in education, which led to a job teaching for three years in a one-room school house.

She married Robert G. Sevier on February 24,1950 in Vancouver, Washington. They lived on a houseboat in the Willamette River. The couple lived in Portland, Baker City, Union, La Grande, and Boise. They eventually retired in Green Valley, Arizona.

When Bob moved his law practice to Union, they decided to adopt a child, and Richard Jon Sevier became a part of their family.

She was a faithful supporter of her Christian religion and a life member of Grande Ronde Valley No. 49, O.E.S.  She was installed as Worthy Matron on June 22, 1962 with Wayne Ferguson as her Worthy Patron. She was a fifty-year member and received her 50-Year membership pin.

The Seviers eventually moved both home and law practice to La Grande, where they became active with the La Grande Swim Team and Lois became a licensed tax consultant.

When Bob closed his law practice, they moved to Boise, where Lois went to work as a bookkeeper at the Idaho School of the Blind. When she retired, they chose Green Valley, Arizona for their permanent retirement home.

After Bob’s death, Lois moved to Fellowship Square in Tucson until 2015 where she enjoyed swimming and playing cards every day and attending various entertainment programs. After injuring her shoulder in a fall, she returned to Oregon to live with her son, Richard, in Springfield for a few months before finding a permanent home at Wylie Creek Retirement Community in Sweet Home.

She is survived by her son, Richard Jon Sevier, of Springfield and her special friend, Donna Patterson, of Union.

Interment will be at the Union Victorian Cemetery in Union, Oregon.
